Ms. Shimizu first intended the character to be aimed at young females but it has grown popular among grown ups as well, grown ups use it mostly for cute office supplies, jewellery and sandals (the item Kitty white first appeared on).

Sanrios profits has grown to over 1 billios US dollars anually, most of it is thanks to Yuko Shimizu´s cartoon character. Not bad for a company which started selling sandals on the streets on Tokyo.
